Use this UFO and space alien coloring page to start a conversation with your kids about the possibility of life in outer space, or use it as an activity while you wait for sun to set so you can gaze up at the stars on a warm summer night.
This month's coloring page is based on an illustration in Supermarket, by Kathleen Krull and illustrated by Melanie Hope Greenberg. If you want to know what space aliens have to do with supermarkets, you'll just have to read the book!

Supermarket is available at your library!
I always like to encourage my readers to combine the coloring page with an activity. Since summer is a great time for lying in the grass and staring up at the night sky, put together a star gazing busy bag.
Star gazing busy bag:
- Space alien coloring page
- Campfire coloring page (check out how this illustration inspired an awesome conversation!)
- Night sky coloring page
- Glitter Crayons
- Glow in the dark stickers
- Blank journal or paper
Meet the illustrator:
Melanie Hope Greenberg hopes one day to see a UFO. Until then the award winning author and illustrator of more than 15 children’s books will enjoy simply gazing at the night sky. Melanie's cheerful, vibrant illustrations can be found in the popular books Good Morning, Digger, Down in the Subway and A City Is. Her very popular Mermaids on Parade was selected as a Bank Street Best Book, and for the Texas Reading Club and PBS Kids Summer Reading Lists.
Melanie also visits schools and libraries to talk with children about the process of creating a book.
